Oconee Democrats Re-Organize Precincts

Leading the West Union precinct, Beverly Jenkins (standing in red) listens to comments of her neighbors, left to right: Paul Klein, Carol Klein (back of head), Lillie Johnson, Ken Marsh, (standing), Henrietta Jenkins, and Janet Marsh.

The energetic crowd of 65 at the Walhalla Civic Auditorium wasn’t there to listen to music or watch a play.  They were participating in democracy.   It was the biennial precinct reorganization for the Oconee County Democratic Party.

This is the first step in the road to re-electing President Barack Obama.  Next will be Oconee’s county convention in March, the SC Democratic Party’s convention in April and then, the National Democratic Convention in Charlotte.  Today, eight Oconee Democrats stood up to start their campaigns to be delegates to that September event.

“I am extremely excited about the enthusiasm of Oconee Democrats and their desire to assure a victory for President Obama,” said Marilyn Hemingway, chair of the Oconee County Democratic Party.

Also, Jeanne van den Hurk, candidate for the Third Congressional District seat, spoke to the gathering.

Oconee Dems Clean Up!

Getting ready for the long haul up and down Hwy 123 between Seneca and Clemson, Oconee Dems (left to right) Joan Shier, Bob Ashcraft, Janet Marsh, and Rosellen Aliguire gather together the materials and signs we needed for a successful Adopt-A-Highway event on Friday, January 27.  Afterwards, Janet Marsh, our team leader, commented, "We picked up 27 + bags of trash over 2 miles of road!  That means 14 bags per mile and 7 bags every ½ mile."  It sure felt like it!  :)

More helpers!  Bob Ashcraft (left to right), David Harshbarger, Janet Marsh, and Polly Harshbarger.  Although present and accounted for, Joel Arnold. He didn't make the photos ... but did warm our hearts when he picked us up at the end.
