On the state level, Democrats have already fielded two candidates to compete for our nomination for governor - and it is possible that more leaders join the race.  Whoever wins our primary, they will surely represent a better choice than re-electing Mark Sanford.  Sanford swept into office claiming a unified Republican government would make life better for South Carolinians.  To date, though his party controls both the House and Senate, he has failed to accomplish ANYTHING that truly impacts the lives of our people.  With staggering job losses, repeated cuts to Medicaid, and failed attempt to redirect public school dollars to wealthy private schools, working families are worse-off now than when he took office.  With a Democratic governor, we can do better!

Over the next few years, I will work hard to encourage local leaders to step forward to run for county council.  Fiscal responsibility is dead in our county government.  We have a county council that continues to make poor financial decisions and is wasting our money.  Between the scandals, secrecy, lawsuits, and tax increases... this group has proven they can't help but throw our hard earned tax dollars away.  It is time to break the back of the good-ole boy system... we can do better!

The Oconee Democratic Party is growing fast and organizing to take back our leadership role in Oconee County.  With our new web site, www.OconeeDemocrats.com we have created a place where citizens can gather to discuss local issues and help bring responsible government back to Oconee.  We can do better... and we'll prove it.
